Cutera Titan is an infrared light device for treating skin laxity of the face, neck, jowls, arms, legs, abdomen or other body part with loose skin, without surgery, recovery time or injections. During the procedure, Titan heats the deep dermis to stimulate collagen growth. The skin’s surface is protected through continuous contact cooling.
Patients benefit from 1 to 3 treatments, each spaced 1 month apart. Some patients see results immediately. For others, the results are gradual over a 3 – 6 month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens. No topical anesthesia is required. Men and women of all ages and skin types who have lax skin on some part of their body are potential candidates.
What does it do?
Titan is a light-based treatment we use to improve skin tone and fitness. The areas we most often treat include the cheeks, jawline, under the chin and the abdomen and the underside of the upper arms.
Titan utilizes a sophisticated infrared light to heat the dermis well below the skin’s surface. This heating can cause immediate collagen contraction resulting in tighter skin. During the procedure, the skin’s surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece. After the procedure, new collagen growth results in further tightening with the improvement of lax skin, folds and lines.
What is the Titan difference?
Titan employs light energy because it provides a more uniform distribution of energy for heating the deep dermis than other energy sources, such as RF (radiofrequency).
What areas respond best to the Titan procedure? Patients have been successfully treated on many areas of the body where skin is lax. Loose skin along the jaw line, under the chin, the abdomen and upper arm have responded particularly well to the procedure. Treatment results are best for those with mild to moderate laxity.
Who can be treated?
Since the Titan procedure is heating tissue under the skin’s surface, patients of any skin type can be treated. Men and women of all ages and skin types are potential candidates. Your doctor can advise you if the Titan is right for you. It may also be a non-surgical option for early to middle-aged patients interested in postponing a facelift. Titan can also be used to treat those experiencing skin laxity after childbirth, liposuction, or weight loss. Typically any adult who wants to have firmer skin, and who understand that this is not a replacement for a face lift, can be a candidate for Titan.
How many treatments will I need?
A single treatment has produced very good results for some patients. We will advise you as to the number and frequency of treatments recommended for optimal results. Treatment typically ranges from one to four treatments over a few months.
How long does each treatment take?
The time will vary according to whether you are treating a full face, a neck or both, but a safe estimate is 60 minutes.
What does it feel like?
Patients are able to tolerate treatments without the use of any anaesthesia, numbing creams, or medication. There may be a few quick moments of areas of particular discomfort. Some patients choose to take panadol prior to treatment, but most patients do well without any pain medication.
What can I expect afterwards?
There may be some flushing from the heat and possibly some very slight swelling, but can return to normal activities right away. Results can be subtle at first but over the course of 6 months, the results continue to improve.
For how long do the results last?
Patients are still enjoying the benefits of Titan after one to two years, but because the skin will continue to age, you may opt for a yearly maintenance treatment.
Is it safe?
Tens of thousands of Titan treatments have been done to date. As with all medical procedures, there is a slight degree of risk and Dr Kraft will discuss this with you thoroughly when you come in for your consultation.
