What is it about?
Ageing results in a loss of skin tone and elasticity due to a reduction in circulation. Some of the capillaries under the skin become dormant thereby depriving skin cells of oxygen. Combined with exposure to environmental stresses such as sunlight and pollution, this inhibits the ability of cells to regenerate and function properly.
Carbon-dioxide is naturally produced by cells in our body as a by-product of metabolism. It is transported in the blood and exhaled through our lungs. Carbon Dioxide Therapy is a very safe treatment which greatly stimulates blood flow and results in a significant surge of oxygen and nutrients to the treated area, which leads to an improvement of the skin’s cellular function. Carbon Dioxide Therapy is not associated with any down-time.
Is this procedure right for you?
Carbon Dioxide Therapy is often described as the biggest breakthrough in beauty therapy since Botox. It is highly effective in reducing dark under-eye circles, minimising stretch marks, inducing skin tightening, fading our scars and reducing the appearance of cellulite.
How does it work?
The treatment involves the gradual administration of carbon dioxide gas via microinjections just beneath the surface of the skin. The body interprets this as an oxygen deficit and responds by increasing the flow of blood. Fluid build up between the cells is eliminated and the skin is stimulated to produce more collagen, hence leading to an increase in the firmness of body tissues.
Even though some patients can experience a light tingling sensation near the injection site, which disappears within a matter of seconds, this is merely the result of the increased circulation. The area surrounding the injection site may feel warmer for 10 minutes. Ideally the treatments should be carried out once or twice a week for stretch marks and cellulite and every 2 to 4 weeks for under-eye dark circles. Usually noticeable results are seen after the fifth session and around the 8th to 10th session mark, the tissue will become firmer.
The results on stretch marks and scars are permanent, whilst for cellulite reduction and under-eye dark circles, booster sessions are required to ensure that results are sustained.
